PSG-Troyes: an 11th consecutive win, but not by a wide margin

PSG beat Troyes 1-0 on matchday 10 of Ligue 1. It was an eleventh successive win in all competitions, but a narrow victory that leaves the standings provisional.

Paris Saint-Germain beat Troyes 1-0 on Saturday 7 November, on matchday 10 of Ligue 1. Illia Zabarnyi’s goal, scored in the 39th minute, gave the Paris club an eleventh consecutive win in all competitions. The run is clear-cut; the match itself did not turn into a big win.

This distinction matters when assessing the performance. A run measures the consistency of results, not how each win is achieved. Against Troyes, Paris took three points and retained top spot in the league, but failed to turn its many chances into a bigger lead on the scoreboard.

A goal from a corner, then an unchanged scoreline

The decisive move began with a quickly taken corner by Désiré Doué. Senny Mayulu collected the ball, entered the penalty area and crossed; Zabarnyi headed it in from six metres. The Ukrainian defender thus scored the match’s only goal, according to PSG’s match report.

Paris also created numerous dangerous situations, particularly in the first half. The club’s live coverage notes an attempt by Mayulu that was saved by the Troyes goalkeeper, then a shot that hit the post, as well as several saves by Konaté against Ferran Torres. These moments illustrate the match’s paradox: PSG found space and got shots away, but could not make the game safe.

Possession, recorded at 81% for Paris against 19% for Troyes, confirms that the ball was largely on the Parisian side. But this figure alone does not sum up the balance of play: it says nothing about the quality of the chances or the ability to turn an attack into a goal. The final score is a reminder above all that dominating possession, even emphatically, does not guarantee a bigger win.

Troyes also had chances. Renaud Ripart notably shot wide after finding himself in the penalty area. Late in the match, Lucas Maronnier thought he had equalised, but his goal was ruled out for offside. PSG therefore held on to its lead, without preventing ESTAC from looking threatening at times.

Eleven wins: a run in all competitions

The figure announced—eleven—refers to official matches played in all competitions, not just Ligue 1. In the league, the win against Troyes brought PSG’s consecutive victories to seven, according to RTL’s match report. The previous match had been a 6-0 win at Villarreal in the Champions League, the same source reports.

The run of eleven is described as Luis Enrique’s longest since his appointment in 2023. The result against Troyes therefore sets a benchmark for the coach, but is not an absolute club record: PSG’s live coverage notes that the longest winning run by the Paris club is sixteen matches, in 2015-2016.

After the match, Luis Enrique highlighted above all the eight wins his team had secured since the previous international break, rather than the total of eleven. He also described the match as difficult against a team in a delicate position in the standings and praised Troyes’ defensive quality. These remarks reflect his assessment; they do not change the statistical scope of the run.

PSG remain top, but the gap is not definitive

At this point in matchday 10, Paris have 23 points and are three points ahead of Paris FC, according to the club’s match report. This snapshot of the standings remains provisional: several teams, including Lille and Lyon, were still due to play on Sunday. The win therefore guarantees that PSG remain top at this point, but does not settle their lead over all their rivals.

Paris FC won 1-0 at Auxerre, thanks to a goal from Lassine Sinayoko, RTL reports. The club is described as second, three points behind PSG, ahead of the other weekend matches. The emergence of this neighbour in the race for position in the standings adds significance to the Paris result, but is not enough to say the contest has already been decided: the matchday was not over.

Troyes, meanwhile, remain 16th with eight points, according to PSG’s live coverage. The Paris club therefore did more than keep its run going: it took points against a team in the lower part of the table, without the match proving to be an attacking formality.

PSG are next due to return to Ligue 1 at Nice on Saturday 21 November, before hosting AS Roma in the Champions League, according to the club’s match report. The international break separates those fixtures from the win against Troyes. The run is secured; extending it will depend on matches to come, not just on the statistical momentum it represents.
